The Village Hall Committee continued with the programme of improvements, having completed the majority of the work on the HEEP (Heating and Energy Efficiency Programme) in 2016. The new heating system is working well although it is too early to see if the anticipated reductions in electricity usage have been realised. This is due to the complexity of changes in consumption patterns, weather variations and changes in electricity prices. A new electricity contract has been agree with British Gas for 2018. As part of the drive to reduce energy consumption the lighting in the Hall has been replaced with LED bulbs. There are now several lighting options for users including dimmer controlled bulbs, bright fluorescent lights, shadowless floodlights for sports activities and coloured LEDS for parties and social events. Whilst changing the lights the very tall main hall ceiling was also given a deep clean.
The entrance to the car park now has two splendid signs/noticeboards, made of the same long lasting material as the Church noticeboard. To improve the appearance of the car park the dustbins had now been moved next to the bottle recycling bins. A sign has been erected advising that these bins are SOLELY for Hall hirers. They are now locked to discourage inconsiderate people from dumping their rubbish here. A CCTV system has also been installed primarily to protect various items of equipment that have been installed and to improve security generally within the grounds.
An open open evening was held in December to celebrate and showcase the improvements that have been made. The village turned out in large numbers and enjoyed drinks and nibbles and a very pleasant social evening. Janet Harrison thanked everybody for coming and acknowledged the efforts made by Committee members in bringing about the improvements. Martin Kille spoke warmly about the invaluable role that the Village Hall plays in the life of the village. The feedback we have received so far is that the quality and appearance of the Hall is much appreciated by its users, and indeed bookings and enquiries remain healthy.
The Village Hall Committee have been working on a series of opportunities in 2016.Major developments have included the installation of an air sourced heat pump (ASHP). This is essentially a large fridge working in reverse to take heat out of the air to heat the Hall and provide an eco-friendly, more controllable and cost effective solution to our ageing night storage and convector electric heaters. The system is managed online to provide us with much more flexibility and control and reducing our heating bills by perhaps as much as 65%. The other major projects for 2016 were the replacement with double glazed units of the remaining doors and windows. Finally the car park has been resurfaced to complement the internal redecoration that has been carried out. These improvements represent a substantial five figure investment, bringing our Village Hall up to the highest standards. We are very grateful to those organisations that provided grants and support for the work. These include -
~ Hampshire County Council ~ The Lottery Fund ~ Hambledon Parish Council
Village Hall Key Would hirers please ensure that they return the key promptly for the benefit of the next user. The keys are security coded and cannot be copied without the access codes - please dont lose a key, they are difficult to replace.
Car Park The car park is for the use of Village Hall users and occasional visitors by arrangement. Would residents please ensure that they do not regularly park their vehicles at the Village Hall.
Village Hall Business Plan The Business Plan summarises the current status of the Village Hall and includes comprehensive details of its management, operation, finances and future plans. The Plan is regularly reviewed and updated by the Village Hall Committee, we are currently (January 2015) performing against the targets and milestones outlined in the Plan. Website and Booking System The Village Hall has streamlined its administration with the purchase of the Hallmaster system to manage bookings and invoicing. This means that our bookings can now all be handled online. There are numerous benefits to users in that they can check availability and prices, make provisional bookings and easily and quickly contact the Bookings Secretary. To complement the new system this new website has been developed. This will provide easy and simple access to the booking system and help to promote the excellent, modern facilities that the Village Hall provides.
